I’m Shelby Madden, a literacy specialist with more than 28 years of experience in K-2 classroom instruction, literacy intervention, and K-6 instructional coaching.

Reading and writing difficulties are teachable with the right levels of support and that’s what motivated me to develop WORD.  I live for those light-bulb moments and identity shifts that come when a child finally understands how words work.

My approach is diagnostic and individualized, grounded in the science of reading and shaped by ongoing observation of how children learn to read and write. I’m currently completing advanced dyslexia-focused certification through the Dyslexia Training Institute of San Diego and my experience also includes Reading Recovery certification.
